Ansjossalat or anchovy salad is the traditional and popular Danish salad. It consists of anchovies, olives, sweet pickles, smoked salmon, fish stock, lemon, and tomato. Anchovies are mashed and surrounded by the rest of the ingredients. When served the salad is garnished with lemon and tomato. Ansjossalat has a spicy and sour taste and goes along perfectly with a side dish. The salad has an appetizing flavour of anchovies, pickles and marinade that contains oil, vinegar, mustard and pepper.
