Bayericher wurstsalat 01.jpg

Bayericher Wurstsalat, literally translated as “Bavarian Sausage Salad”, is a typical, German side dish popular around the whole country and served at all Munich restaurants, snack bars and bistros. The components classically used to prepare this dish are: knockwurst (a kind of local sausage), pickles, onion, vinegar, Dijon mustard, vegetable oil, salt, paprika, pepper, sugar, capers and parsley.

Preparation

The sausage is sliced into thin pieces or diced into small cubes; pickles and onions are minced well and mixed with vinegar, mustard and oil. Salt, sugar and paprika are added to the seasoning mass in order to enrich the taste, flavor and color of the sauce, capers being also tossed in together with sausage. Before being served the salad plate is decorated with chopped parsley and is commonly complemented with any other meaty food, vegetables and fresh bread.
