Bygvandgrød or Barley Soup is the national Danish dish. It is prepared of barley, beef, onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, butter and condiments to bring to taste. This soup is served hot or cold ideally with slices of bread and lots of butter and cheese. It goes also very well with beer. Sometimes the soup is garnished with sour cream to give it a better taste. Bygvandgrød has a yellowish or bright brown colour. The taste is sour and sweet at the same time. Due to the meat included this soup is rather nutritious and perfect for a cold season.
