Cheng tng 02.jpg

Cheng tng, also called “five fruits soup”, is a common Chinese sweet soup with a rich variety of ingredients used for its preparation: dried Longan, barley, sweet potatoes, tau suan, lian zi, bai he, dried persimmon, winter melon, sometimes with addition of gingko nuts or white fungus.

Cheng tng is also famous for its health benefits, light texture and pleasant taste.

The dessert is thought to be originated from the Teochews, and today the recipe has a range of variations, with addition of more ingredients to the traditional five, depending on the cook’s preference. In Singapore it is usually served cold as a cooling desert in a small glass bowl.
