Chopitos

Chopitos are a famous Catalan appetizer consisting of battered, fried baby squid. After being lightly salted and placed in a vegetable filter, chopitos are drained on paper towels, then dipped in flour and fried. In order to prevent toughness, the squid is fried for less than two minutes.

Most often, this dish is served plain, with salt and lemon on the side or it may as well accompany a green leafy ensalada.

Fried squid is widely consumed in countries outside Spain, including Italy, Greece, Turkey, USA, Mexico and Australia.
