Coffin sandwich 02.JPG

Coffin Sandwich (棺材板) is a typical snack in Taipei and other cities and regions of Taiwan. This dish is undoubtedly not the only delicacy visitors should taste while visiting Taipei. The original name of this dish was known as ji gan ban (雞肝板; literally translated as “chicken liver plank”). This sandwich is a thick slice of bread with a hollow filled with a mix of ingredients varying from fried tripe and seafood, assorted with vegetables and covered with a thin slice of toast. The name of this snack might make one think that it is dangerous food, but it is only due to the shape of the sandwich and its cover that inspired people to give it such a particular naming.
