Crostata al mandarino

A crostata is an Italian baked dessert tart, and a form of pie. Different jams are traditionally used as a filling for this dessert. Crostata al mandarino is made with mandarin jam or mandarin slices. The crostata can also be blind-baked and then filled with pastry cream (crema pasticcera) topped with pieces of fresh fruit, in crostata al mandarino with mandarine slices. The dough for this dessert is made from flour, butter, eggs and sugar, can also contain lemon zest.
Crostata al mandarino is especially often made and eaten in Italy during the Christmas period when mandarins are mostly consumed.
