Dutch Rabbit

Dutch rabbit is a typical holiday dish for Christmas in the Netherlands. The Dutch method of preparing of the dish includes a rabbit, cut into two halves and spices as the main components, but also butter, water, onion, and bouquet garni (which are optional). Basically, the preparation is quite simple – the rabbit is put in a large pan and simmered with butter, onion, salt and pepper for about 1,5 hours. Water is added while cooking. It is important not to boil and carefully follow the instructions provided, because the meat will toughen. Optionally, bouquet garni might be added. The ready dish features a tasty combination of cooked meat and sweet and sour flavors.
