Erdäpfelsalat (Potato salad) is a dish made from potatoes, the versions of which vary throughout different regions and countries of the world. Although called a salad, it is generally considered a side dish, as it generally accompanies the main course. The traditional Austrian Potato Salad has one of the simplest recipes and usually includes just potatoes and onions (usually red onions) in its ingredients. The marinade consists of few components such as water or meat broth, vinegar, oil, salt and pepper and gives the salad an unforgettable taste. For better and fresher taste chives, parsley, marjoram or lovage can be also added. Traditionally the Erdäpfelsalat is served cold, although it can be encountered warm as well.
