Flan is a traditional French dessert that is very popular in Peru. It is made with sugar (melt in a saucepan until golden or brown color), eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and aromatic vanilla. After the egg mixture is poured into baking dish and is baked, the dish is cooled completely. Then each ramekin is inverted onto a serving plate and is topped with the caramel sauce. Flan has a lot of variations and may be based on savory (cheese, pumpkin, asparagus) and sweet (chocolate, almond, coffee, pineapple, coconut) ingredients.
