Oyster stands for groups of bivalve molluscs which live in marine or brackish habitats. Most of them are edible molluscs. Oysters can be eaten on the half shell, raw, smoked, boiled, baked, fried, roasted, stewed, canned, pickled, steamed, broiled or used in a variety of drinks. Preparation widely varies depending on the region and culture. Oysters are popular in Chicago as well. Many restaurants serve them fried on a sandwich or toast. The preparation of this dish calls for the oysters to be dipped in egg batter, dusted with flour and fried afterwards. Most of the time, they are served with toasted buttered French bread, mustard and tartar sauce and even a squeeze of lemon. Obviously they are also served on a regular toast, or inside a toasted bun. The fried oysters constitute a great filling for sandwiches and make them very tasty.
