Easily the most famous of Greek salads, Greek Salad is made with pieces of tomatoes, sliced cucumber, green bell peppers, red onion, sliced or cubed feta cheese, and kalamata olives, typically seasoned with salt, pepper and dried oregano, and dressed with olive oil. Common additions include the pickled leaves, buds or berries of capers (especially in the Dodecanese islands), vinegar, lemon juice, and chopped parsley.
Nowadays there are many versions of Greek salad, not all of them however are genuine Greek salad. The traditional Greek Salad - Horiatiki Salata (χωριάτικη σαλάτα) which means rustic salad or village style salad, was originally a local dish that later spread around the world.
