Künefe is one of the traditional Turkish desserts. One can try this perfect delicacy only in Turkey, and it is impossible to make it at home, because Künefe is prepared of special shredded phyllo dough, Kadayıf. Kadayıf is put into two layers with fresh grated cheese between them, and baked. As soon as the Künefe is taken out the oven, while it is still hot, it is poured over with a cold syrup, sprinkled with ground pistachio and served immediately. Künefe shops are common in the major tourist areas of Istanbul, and they usually serve it with cream or ice cream.
