Turkey is one of the world's top five producers of grapes. Kavaklıdere is the oldest and best known winery in Turkey. Founded by the And family in 1929, it is located in Ankara and is named after a neighborhood in the city. Kavaklıdere is translated as "valley of poplars" from Turkish. Since that time it has become the leading wine producer in the country. The winery produces over 40 different wines, also exported to European, American and Far Eastern countries. Kavaklıdere wine was a favourite one of Turkish leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The winery offers a large choice of white, red and rose wines to suit all tastes and budgets. Most of the wines are produced from their own indigenous Anatolian grapes.
