Kletzenbrot is a traditional Christmas cookie, made especially in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other European countries and greatly enjoyed by the people of this area and by all tourists who try it for the first time. It is a kind of sweet bread made with different dried fruits and nuts and served at breakfast with tea, coffee, milk or any other non alcoholic beverages. The ingredients commonly used to prepare this dessert are: kletzen (pieces of dried pears), prunes (dried plums), walnuts, almonds, rum, cinnamon, cloves, lemon peel, yeast and flour. The dough which results from combining all these making parts is very aromatic and rich in calories; it is baked in the oven until golden brown of color, then cooled and sliced. Kletzenbrot is traditionally made around Thomastag and consumed on Christmas Eve, it is also said to have a history dating back in Medieval Times.
