Portion of Lasagne al Forno

Lasagne al Forno is one of the most classic Italian dishes. The recipe is quite time-consuming and not at all easy to cook, but the results are always a success. The original recipe includes fresh or dried lasagna sheets, butter, chopped onions and garlic cloves, celery sticks, carrots, minced beef, milk, fresh bay leaves, oregano, grated nutmeg, white or red wine, chopped tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper. The ingredients, except the lasagne sheets, are sauteed in a pan, the milk being the last added. The mixture is divided in two portions and one of them is placed on the bottom of the baking dish. It is covered with one lasagne sheet which is further buttered with a cheese sauce (flour, butter, milk, ground nutmeg, cheddar and parmesan cheese) or a béchamel sauce (flour, milk, onions, grated nutmeg, butter, black pepper). The procedure continues until the reserve of ingredients are used up. Before placing the lasagne al forno in the oven, it is generously sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese. The dish is baked in the oven until it obtains a pleasant golden colour.
