Lenja Pita, literally translated as “lazy pie”, is a common dessert cake in Montenegro, which is good for all seasons and for any part of the day. It is basically made with apples or sour cherry and is greatly loved by the locals and people from their neighboring countries. The ingredients used to make this pie are: butter, sugar, milk, eggs, baking powder, apples or sour cherry, vanilla sugar, water, crumbs.
Apples are peeled, sliced and boiled in water with sugar syrup; flour is combined with baking powder and then kneaded into dough with eggs, sugar, and milk. Resulted dough is divided into two halves, the first part is spread on a greased baking tray, on which the apple puree is laid and covered with the second half. The cake is baked in the oven until golden brown, then cooled and served sprinkled with powdered sugar on top. The apple filling can be substituted by sour cherry one, all depending on a person's taste and preferences.
