Mailänderli are Christmas cookies made from flour, sugar and butter with a slight lemon flavor, which are very popular in Switzerland, especially with children and sweets' lovers. They are punched out of a few millimeters thick batter and generally not decorated. Although the name suggests that it is a Milanese dessert, it is mostly a Swiss and German dish. Preparation is as simple as the list of ingredients: butter and sugar are mixed together until become creamy, to which yolks, vanilla and lemon zest are added, then gradually stirred in flour. When the dough is formed it is cut in different forms and baked until golden. Christmas is in the air when the smell of Mailänderli is gently waving in the house.
