Mantequilla de ajo casera, literally translated as homemade garlic butter, is a traditional complement sauce in Guatemala which is served either with meat dishes, seafood or fresh bread and tortillas. The ingredients for this appetizer are: butter, preferably unsalted, garlic, parsley, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

The butter is left to soften in a warm place; garlic and parsley are finely chopped, mixed with the butter and lemon juice; the mass is placed on an aluminum foil and refrigerated. It is used when desired, traditionally as a course starter or it can be served as a dipping sauce with meats, vegetables or any other food.
