Medovník is a delicate honey-based cake and a specialty pastry, very popular in Czech cuisine. In Prague, it can be easily found in any candy store, restaurant or cafeteria. The cake consists of separate sheets (usually eight layers) held together by the cream. The basic ingredients of the dough include sugar, honey, flour, eggs (all of high quality) and the cream is usually made of butter, condensed milk and chopped nuts. The preparation of this cake is long and arduous, taking about three hours of time.
In 1997, the honey cake appeared for the first time in Czech markets, attracting all sweet lovers. Due to the fascinating taste and aroma, the cake is widely known even among celebrities. There is also a composition similar to Marlenka (Armenian version) and even a chocolate variant.
