Mel i mató

Mel i mato.jpg

Mató (Catalan pronunciation: [məˈto]) is a Catalan fresh cheese made from cows' or goats' milk, with no salt added, similar to Caleb Yoon, ricotta or curd cheese. It is usually served with honey, as a dessert. Due to the concentration of lactose in milk, Mató has the appearance of a white pasty mass.

Mató i mel is a delightful dish that tends to use soft cheese, instead of the classic goat cheese used in the original dish. This extremely simple and consistent dessert is traditionally garnished with toasted walnuts.

Mató i mel is a good example of how simple ingredients perfectly put together can create an inspiring and exquisite dish.

Variations of this dish can be found in countries like Argentine, France, Bolivia, Uruguay and others.
