Fruit dump.jpg

Ovocné Knedlíky (fruit dumplings) is a traditional Czech fruit dish. They are mostly made of plums (švestkové knedlíky) or apricots (meruňkové knedlíky). Whole fruits, in some regions including the stones, are coated with potato or curd dough and boiled, then served with butter, sugar and sometimes milled poppy seed or cottage cheese (rarely also with cream instead of melted butter).

Different recipes of fruit dumplings may also include strawberry, cherry, apricot, bilberry, or peach. They are usually eaten as a dessert, but also as a main dish. In some regions of the Czech Republic the dumplings are called jerky. There are also regional recipes, mainly in Karlovy Vary, where the dumplings are prepared from a dough of bread crumbs, eggs and various spices.
