Punsch (Caloric Punch, Arrack Punch) is an alcoholic drink specific to Sweden and other Nordic countries. It is produced from arrack, neutral spirits, sugar, water, and various flavorings. Arrack, originally a strong Indian liquor, was imported from Java and became the base ingredient for making punsch. The origin of the drink's name comes from ancient Hindi. It means "five flavours". Originally, when punsch was produced exclusively in households, it used to be served as a hot drink. The fashion to have the drink cold came only after the second half of the nineteenth century.
