Rijstebrij (rice pudding) is one of the most famous and well-loved Dutch cuisine food. It is considered so special, that it is even mentioned in Dutch and Flemish folklore. According to folklore, heaven is a place where you can always eat rice pudding with big golden spoons. It just never ends; you can enjoy it forever. Rijstebrij is made with uncooked white rice, full fat milk, sugar, salt, cinnamon stick, butter. The preparation is simple: milk is brought to boil, after which rice is added. When the rice is soft and creamy, butter is added and mixed well.

In the Netherlands, Rijstebrij is typically served in small bowls or glasses with crystallized brown sugar.
