The roasted chestnuts (Buah Berangan) is a very popular aromatic street food in Kuala Lumpur. It is refered as 'lat chee' among locals. There are numerous vendors selling this treat from their carts or stalls. Before being cooked, the core of the chestnuts should be incrusted with a "x" in order to avoid their explosion. Usually, the Kuala Lumpur vendors cook their chestnuts in a very large wok or a special machine, using hot coal or coffee beans. The treat is perfect to enjoy in a cold weather.
Roasted chestnuts are a popular street food in Italy as well. They are often roasted in the streets and sold in little paper bags.
