Sago gula melaka, also known as Sago pudding, is a sweet pudding made by boiling sago with either water or milk and adding sugar and sometimes additional flavorings. It is made in many cultures and may be produced in a variety of ways.
In Malaysia and Singapore, sago gula melaka is made by boiling pearl sago in water and serving it with syrup of palm sugar (gula melaka) and coconut milk.
Preparation
The preparation of this sweet and refreshing dessert is simple and takes little time. Soaked pearl sago is boiled together with water in a pot, stirring well until transparent. The dessert is rinsed till cool, then sugar is added and finally put into fridge. The mixture of coconut milk together with water, sugar and pandan leaves are brought to boil, the chilled. It is traditionally served with coconut milk and sugar poured on the top of the chilled sago.
