Schneeballen, literally translated as “Snowballs”, is a Bavarian dessert that is considered to have the origins in Rottenburg, since it is often referred to as Rottenburg Schneeballen. They come in forms of balls of different sizes and colors, and the ingredients used to cook them are: flour, sugar, eggs, salt, rum, cream sherry, baking powder, baking soda, sour cream, nutmeg, cooking oil and powdered sugar.
Cream, eggs and sugar are whisked well and combined with flour, rum and cream sherry till stiff dough results, which is consequently rolled out, cut into stripes that are made into ball forms. The balls are fried in hot oil on all sides until reach a golden brown color; then they are drained and served cooled, sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar, cacao powder or dipped into chocolate sauces.
