Schokolade Kuchen, literally translated as Chocolate cake, is a popular dessert in Switzerland, the main ingredient of which is chocolate, and, what could be more delicious than a real Swiss chocolate treat with a cup of tea or coffee. The recipes vary a lot, just like all Swiss cuisine dishes and methods of cooking, but, classically it contains: margarine, sugar, eggs, salt, vanilla sugar, dark chocolate, almonds, plain biscuits, powder sugar and chocolate powder.

Preparation

The margarine is stirred with sugar, eggs and vanilla until gets a foamy structure; chocolate is dissolved in hot water and added to the mixture together with ground almonds and biscuits. Then, the whites of eggs are beaten until become stiff and poured into the margarine-base mass which is mixed well and baked in the oven. It is frosted with powdered sugar, chocolate powder and a little water or simply sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar. It is served at breakfast, or as a dessert of a complete meal. The aroma of this chocolate delicacy cheers up one’s mood and makes feel happier.
