Shawarma is a delicious meaty roll of Turkish origin that is pretty popular around the world for its exotic taste. Shawarma is made by alternately stacking strips of fat and pieces of seasoned meat (beef, lamb or marinated chicken) on a stick. The meat is roasted slowly for as long as a day on all sides as the spit rotates in front of a flame for hours. The meat towers allow the meat to marinate in their own juices and cook on the outer layer inward, giving that special taste that people love. While cooking, the meat is shaved off the stack and rolled into a sandwich wrap with pita bread.
Shawarma is served on a leavened, white flour bun with julienned cabbage, a slice of tomato, sliced onions, ketchup, and mayonnaise. In addition, served on a dish with rice.
