Soon Kueh is a dish of Chinese origin appreciated almost everywhere in Malaysia and Singapore. Traditional Soon Kueh is a steamed dumpling filled with bamboo shoots, and nowadays variations sold in Singapore stalls often have turnip filling. To prepare Soon Kueh bamboo shoot or turnips are fried with pork piece, chopped garlic, dried shrimps and mushrooms, and seasoned to taste. The dough for dumplings is made of rice flour, rolled and cut into semi-circular shapes. Then filling is wrapped with dough skin and steamed until they are ready. In Singapore, the dish is usually served with dark sweet sauce and chili seasoning.
