Sopa da Pedra
Sopa da Pedra is a popular dish in Portuguese restaurants. It is also a child’s tale about hungry strangers that persuade local people of a town to give them food. Sopa da Pedra (Stone soup) is called so because there is no specific recipe for the soup. It is usually made of any ingredients there are at hand at the moment. Usually some meat is used for its preparation like pig’s ears, sausages, black pudding, bacon, ham, pork belly or any other meat that is at hand. Also for the soup are used vegetables like beans, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cabbage and herbs like coriander, bay leaf, celery, mint and others. The Sopa da Pedra is served hot with some bread.
