Speckpfannkuchen, literally translated as “pancakes with bacon”, is a common appetizer dish that is especially popular in Berlin and in the whole country of Germany, too. The typical component of a breakfast menu-list might be this dish that is made of flour, milk, eggs, salt and bacon. Preparation is not complicated and effort taking as the ingredients are mixed together into a smooth and not very thick mass; bacon is cut into slices and fried, then the batter is thinly spread in a pancake pan where it is first sprinkled with bacon and then fried on both sides. Speckpfannkuchen are served hot, traditionally complemented with pickled cucumbers.
