Sunomono (in Japanese "su" means vinegar) is a Japanese salad prepared from pieces of marinated cucumber mixed with sesame seeds. Since it is a vegetarian dish, Sunomono can be classified as a lifestyle food.
Usually, Amazu sauce or Ponzu sauce which are vinegar-based come along with this dish. Variations of this dish may enclose wakame and seafood including crab, octopus and shrimp.
Sunomono has an invigorating original flavor and goes with many types of dishes. It can be a side dish or an excellent appetizer that is served along with the main meal. Sunomono helps to increase appetite.
Sunomono is well-known in many countries outside Japan including the United States, Canada, Germany and Spain. In Tokyo this dish is also often required by consumers.
