Tarte Tatin is one of the best and popular apple pies in the world and there are different conflicting versions of how it appeared. The traditional version says that the Tarte Tatin was created by accident at the Hotel Tatin in Lamotte-Beuvron, France in 1898. The hotel was then run by two sisters, Stéphanie and Caroline Tatin. One day Stéphanie Tatin began cooking a traditional apple pie, but she left the apples cooking in butter and sugar for too long. Trying to save the dish she put the pastry base on top and then put the whole pan in the oven. The dish was a success. Another version says that she baked an apple pie tart upside-down by mistake. Whichever way it was, the fact remains that Tarte Tatin is one of the best desserts ever.
