Cuisine is an integral part of any local culture, and no trip to Frankfurt is complete without tasting the traditional Frankfurt food. This directory offers information about the traditional dishes and drinks available in Frankfurt to help visitors better understand the local food culture and make an informed decision when trying them.


  • Klöße: round poached or boiled potato or bread dumplings.


  • Biersuppe: toasted white (French) bread, milk, cinnamon, beer, eggs, butter, flour.
  • Goulash Soup: beef, potatoes, onions, tomato paste, butter, salt, pepper and other ingredients.
  • Hochzeitssuppe: chicken broth, chicken meat, small meatballs (Fleischklößchen), asparagus heads, noodles and cooked egg garnish (Eierstich), raisins (optional).

  • Stollen: a loaf-shaped cake containing dried fruit, and covered with sugar, powdered sugar or icing sugar.

  • Reibekuchen: potato fritters that are usually eaten with apple sauce or pumpernickel bread.

Drinks (Non-alcoholic)

  • Filter coffee: a brewed beverage with a dark, slightly acidic flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffee plant.
  • Schorle: a drink made from diluting juice or wine with lightly carbonated water.
  • Spezi: a beverage made with cola and an orange-flavored drink such as Fanta.
  • Sprudel: bottled, carbonated mineral water.
